Outdoor Furniture, Lighting Collections More Luxurious Than Ever

MILAN — The concept of the home as a stark, modernist boundary from the outdoors was introduced by Le Corbusier, together with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand when they presented their revolutionary modern vision for the home at the 1929 Salon d’Automne. Fast forward to 2026 — it took a global pandemic to revolutionize that way of thinking. Humans are connecting with the outdoors again like never before. Without sacrificing on quality, those with a penchant for design are curating their natural spaces into sanctuaries of luxury pieces.

Here are some collections that embody these new luxury codes for the outdoors:

Founded in 2006 in the furniture heartland of Brianza, Italy, Exteta is at a prime example of the ultra-redefined outdoor movement, producing furnishings that are envisaged for outdoor environments but are just as magnificent indoors.

Pieces such as its Joint Stone Dining tables are made with luxury materials like Carrara marble and finishings like antiqued and glossed stainless steel. The brand’s collections include works from world-acclaimed designers like Massimo Castagna, Paola Navone, Studiopepe and Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, alongside re-editions of famous pieces by Franco Albini, Gae Aulenti, and Marco Zanuso.

Exteta also collaborates with prestigious names such as Loro Piana Interiors, Jacquemus and Riva Nautical Design, solidifying its position in luxury outdoor design. The brand specializes in sapele mahogany, a premium wood used for Venetian gondolas and Riva boats, finished through a meticulous multistep process for durability and elegance.

Maison Leleu’s Equinoxe collection unveiled in March marked its first outdoor furniture collection since the firm was founded by French designer Jules Leleu in 1910. His great-granddaughter Alexia has been propelling his legacy into the future with her own modern spin.

Comprising 10 models — chairs, armchairs, benches, tables, sun loungers and lighting — Equinoxe marks a new chapter. The outdoors is not uncharted territory for Leleu: As early as the 1930s, the company was involved in fitting out large transatlantic liners and working on iconic locations, where the furniture interacted with the architecture and landscape.

For each design, Alexia transposed her own decorative flair to the exterior with keen attention to detail and comfort.

“The invisible and demanding assembly work took more than two years to perfect. Each joint, each curve and each leg has been designed to combine structural strength with visual delicacy,” she explained.

Each lamp, meant to be used in clusters, calls to mind spring blooms, blending seamlessly with background greenery.

Key to its innovation is the translucent silicone diffuser, which mimics the softness of flower petals and diffuses light to personalize any space — day or night.
