Key Takeaways
- Hailey Bieber shared the outfits she wore on a recent trip to Japan.
- Themes included leather jackets, longer skirts, and her favorite accessories.
- The lineup was full of versatile pieces that you can work into your own wardrobe pre-spring.
If Rhode’s spring drop is any indication, the next few months are going to be full of fresh shades of red and touches of glitter. As far as seasonal inspiration goes, that could be good enough—but why stop there? Founder Hailey Bieber exists separately from her first baby, and she has plenty of personal styling ideas to offer up as well.
On Monday, March 3, Bieber took to Instagram to share a photo dump from her famous husband’s birthday trip to Japan. The carousel was full of sweet moments, good food, and excellent outfits that we’re going to be copying all spring long. And all almost-spring long, too; the beauty of these looks is they’re warm enough to enjoy right this instant.

Texture Time

We can’t all stun in vintage Issey Miyake sets constantly, but we can take some inspo from the famed Japanese designer and have fun with texture. This setup from 2000 is referred to as “egg carton,” and it’s incredible.
Other things to consider here: matching sets, almost-matching shoes, longer skirts (with a slit), and the color butter yellow. It’s sticking around.
Babushka Core

Besides the fact that there are no socks involved, my Russian grandma would love this outfit. It has all of babushka’s dream elements: nice-fitting jeans, a long coat, a headscarf, practical shoes.
The beauty of this look is that you already have the core pieces available to you courtesy of a simple pair of denim and a black t-shirt you love. Hopefully you also have a black leather jacket, but if you don’t? Now’s an appropriate time to source one!
Then, simply accessorize with sunnies, the aforementioned balaclava, and Reformation’s Inez Pumps.
A Pop of Blue

More excellent jacket inspiration came in the form of this ultramarine blue number, a Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2011 piece designed by Raf Simons. Bieber paired it with a black crop top, those Ref heels, and a pair of low-rise flare-leg trousers, all of which are so practical they appeared three times in her carousel.
Also, peep this year’s frontrunner for favorite haircut: the flippy lob.
Leather Weather

There’s a theme going on in the Rhode founder’s post: lots and lots of black leather. Though she often rocks a micro mini, Bieber again went for a longer skirt (knee-length, to be specific), super soft gray v-neck sweater, another leather jacket, and tall black leather boots.
The sunglasses didn’t join the party this time, but tiny hoop earrings did.
Even More Leather

Seriously… almost spring is leather season. No matter your style, you can find a piece that works for you.
There’s something particularly Matrix-y (ie. extra cool) about this high-neck leather blouse, which got paired with the flare pants, sunnies, and a different pair of black leather shoes.
Shop the Looks
The lessons I learned from the above? Leather is everything and it’s never a bad idea to stick with your favorite pieces, although a pop of unexpected color or texture might be necessary to break things up.
With all that information internalized and some caramel pretzel-scented gloss on our lips, it’s going to be (and already is) a great season for getting dressed.
