Musely Launches The Skin Pill Prescription for Repairing UV Damage

Musely has been growing, and in more ways than one.

The telehealth platform, which was founded in 2019 and now boasts over 1.2 million patients, is introducing The Skin Pill, a prescription daily oral treatment with methylene blue, glutathione and polypodium leucotomos to aid with UV-related damage and provide antioxidant support.

It’s priced at $75 for a two-month supply. Jack Jia, founder of Musely, said the medication had been “long demanded by our customers.

“Our demographic is 93 percent women, the median is about 45 years old. A lot of things will change for women and for men as well. One of the biggest things is skin care, as well as hair care,” Jia said, noting that the launch follows the company’s Age Well supplement. “That was the first pill we really launched in the longevity field, and The Skin Pill is the second.

“It’s really trying to repair the cellular damage inside of the skin, and it’s repairing mostly UV damage,” said Jia, adding that the pill follows Musely’s philosophy on preventive care. “When we talk about wellness, cosmetics, condition, the skin, hair, HRT, longevity — that’s everybody’s problem. We’re all going to experience that, and insurance, by definition, cannot cover it. Therefore, the entire health care system does not address it. That’s why we created this model.”

The treatment, which Musely compounds in-house, is composed of active pharmaceutical ingredients that aren’t patented. “These drugs have not just gone through 10 years of clinical trials with maybe a few thousand people, they have been used by real humans for at least 25 years.”

Nevertheless, Jia acknowledged that those ingredients have their own contraindications, “and that’s why everything has to be supervised by doctors. That’s really the model, and that’s why the telehealth and compounding created the platform for the first time so that we can use medicine for wellness, for looking good and living better.”

That value proposition seems to be resonating. Jia said Musely is among the fastest-growing teledermatology platforms in the U.S. With the exception of two of the 130-plus formulas, Musely compounds everything on its own. “We improve the formula with our doctors, our pharmacists and our chemists,” said Jia, adding that sleep cream, shampoo and conditioner will be launched in the future. “That’s the flywheel that we go through every week, month, quarter and year. We already have a handful prepared.”
