The 2025 Met Gala will celebrate the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” by exploring the concept of Black Dandyism, which reinterprets European style to establish one’s own identity through fashion. The event will highlight menswear for the first time in 20 years, giving recognition to the craftsmanship and artistry of Black men in fashion. Contemporary Black designers like Edvin Thompson, Grace Wales Bonner, and LaQuan Smith will showcase how they blend their cultural heritage with European fashion. Celebrities will attend the event, taking inspiration from Black Dandyism’s history, which dates back to 18th-century slaves using fashion as a form of resistance. The theme challenges the fashion industry to recognize the influence and cultural contributions of Black designers and icons, celebrating Black culture and its rich legacy in fashion.
