People worldwide view the Princess of Wales as a style icon, following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. At 42, she remains a central figure in the Royal Family and is already ahead of one of the major fashion trends set for next year.

Experts predict that 2025 will usher in the return of the peplum style, which is expected to become prominent in retail shortly. Nevertheless, Kate possesses a variety of peplum pieces in her collection that she might choose to wear again.

The peplum style first gained fame in 2010, so there’s a chance you have some in your wardrobe as well.

This design features a short, ruffled fabric that flares out from the waistline, enhancing the wearer’s hourglass silhouette. It has been a staple in numerous dresses and tops over the years, even appearing on the runway.

We spoke with fashion stylist Ciara Russell, who has collaborated with several leading brands and celebrities in the UK. She mentioned that this style is accommodating for a variety of body types, explaining that “designers are reimagining it with a contemporary twist.”

Ciara shared with Express.co.uk: “Peplum is returning because it’s a flattering silhouette that accentuates the waist and forms a feminine shape.

“This classic style has enduring appeal, but designers are updating it with modern interpretations, bringing a fresh and versatile take to today’s fashion.”

She further added, “Whether in a tailored jacket or a softer dress, peplum introduces a chic element suitable for various occasions, explaining its resurgence in popularity.”

Another significant aspect is that many jackets and dresses have incorporated wide shoulders over time. The expert elaborated, “Peplum dresses are adaptable and can be styled to flatter different body shapes, especially when selecting the appropriate fit and peplum length.

Ciara highlighted that Princess Kate favors this style because: “They are incredibly flattering and create a feminine silhouette that complements her aesthetic. Additionally, they are re-entering the fashion scene, and as mentioned, she has a considerable influence on British fashion. It’s only logical that she would include them in her wardrobe.”

In 2017, Princess Kate looked stunning in a structured peplum design by Alexander McQueen during her visit to Poland.

In 2022, she was seen disembarking from a plane in a beautiful royal blue lace dress while visiting Jamaica with Prince William.

The following year, at the Annual Commonwealth Day Service, Kate appeared elegant in a fitted peplum outfit as she attended church.

Ciara anticipates that “statement shoulders and sleeves will emerge as a significant trend in 2025.”

She added, “Bold puffed sleeves, strong shoulder lines, and cape-like elements will bring a dramatic yet stylish flair to outfits, ensuring they remain eye-catching yet practical for everyday wear. I also foresee the boho chic style making a return,

“featuring abundant suede, earthy palettes, and flowing fabrics. Fringe and embroidered details will impart a relaxed, vintage aesthetic that still fits into contemporary wardrobes. These two trends—bold statement pieces and the relaxed boho vibe—will harmoniously complement each other and shape women’s fashion in 2025.”
