Jingwei Yin, a Chinese fashion designer, launched his label Oude Waag in 2018. His journey in the fashion world began when he studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins, where he worked under Haider Ackermann in Antwerp. A key moment was when he met Heikki Salonen, creative director of MM6, who encouraged him to create clothes with commercial viability. This led him to return to China and start his own brand. Oude Waag’s aesthetic is a blend of Eastern and Western sensibilities, with a focus on complex female characters and the juxtaposition of contrasts. The brand has gained popularity, with sales to over 40 top-tier fashion boutiques, including Selfridges in London. Yin’s goal is to create a cultural contributor, embracing different references and influences, including his oriental point of view. For his fall 2025 collection, he’s exploring the concept of symbiosis between thorns and soft cotton, with a focus on supporting his partner who is battling depression after a family member’s passing.
