Key Takeaways

No matter how excited or disappointed you are by the outcomes of the 98th Academy Awards, rest easy knowing the news coming from Broadway is great.

Next month, Maya Rudolph will take on the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh Mary!—a dream come true for all of us. But for now? This star is still in Hollywood, where she’s no doubt making her partner laugh between his (many) Oscar nomination categories.

And while we won’t know what she’s saying until the TikTok lip readers get a hold of the clips, we can still appreciate each second the camera landed on her. Per usual, she looked beautiful.

On Sunday, March 15, Rudolph arrived at the Dolby Theater alongside her much-nominated partner, Paul Thomas Anderson. But this isn’t about him. The actress, who also had a role to play in the night for a much-anticipated mini Bridesmaids reunion, wore a tiered black Chanel gown and kept her hair middle parted and slicked back.

Her classic makeup look, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern, was super glowy, featuring rosy cheeks, matching lipstick, and a healthy dose of mascara to make those lashes extra lush.

“Tonight for the 98th Academy Awards Maya Rudolph wears custom Chanel and I wanted her skin to glow, her lashes to pop, and her lips to shine,” Stern shared of the makeup. “Keeping her look classic, I intensified Maya’s lash line and gave her lips a muted, modern diffused look.”

How to Get the Look

Before the festivities, Rudolph kicked off the day with a Lyma Lift facial courtesy of Joanna Czech. Then, Stern went in with her collection of Well People Products. Obviously, the complexion came first.

“I based Maya’s skin with a sheer application of Well People’s Skinforia Serum Foundation in shade 30. This is the perfect veil of color to even out her skin tone while still being able to see her freckles and unique beauty,” explained the artist. “Then I added a few dots of Bio Correct Concealer in color 8W under her eyes and at the high point of her check bones and tip of her nose for a natural bump of highlight and neutral glow.”

For the cheeks, Supernatural Stick Bronzer in the shade Rich Bronze came into play. Stern used it to “create some shadows, contour, and added definition” before adding a brighter pop of color with the Supernatural Stick Multi-Use Blush in the burnt-orange shade Blood Orange for that “natural healthy flush.”

“For Maya’s eyes, I wanted to keep them simple, bright, defined, and romantic. I dusted the peach shade from the Power Palette Eyeshadow in Sepia on the lid,” she added. “Then I softly defined her lash line using the Fresh Lines Eye Pencil in the shade Brown.

Those same lashes received two coats of Expressionist Curling Mascara in black, and the actress’s always expressive brows were defined with Expressionist Brow Gel in Brunette,

Lastly: The lips.

“I used a rich brown toned lip liner and softened the edges of her lips for a blurred base of color. Then for the final pop I added Lush Lip Tinted Oil in shade Dewy Iris which gives her lips a subtle sheen,” the artist noted. “On her way out the door I added an apricot glaze to the cheeks using Superpowder Blush Powder in the shade Sweet Persimmon.”

Oh, Maya. PTA essentially said it in his Best Adapted Screenplay acceptance speech, your mom said it in her famous lyrics, and all of Broadway is going to be saying it soon. Lovin’ you really is so easy.
