L’Oréal Among Top Companies Supporting Employees With Cancer

L’Oréal has been listed as one of the best companies to work at for those with cancer, according to Cancer and Careers, a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 to help people with cancer navigate and thrive in the workplace.

In its inaugural index of the best companies for working with cancer, Cancer and Careers assessed almost 900 employees and 75 employers, evaluating the strength of employer benefits, policies, culture and resources.

“For 25 years, Cancer and Careers has sat at the intersection of health and work,” said Rebecca Nellis, executive director of Cancer and Careers. “This index transforms that expertise into a roadmap for how companies can successfully balance employee need, company culture and business realities while fostering supportive workplace environments.”

The index found key commonalities offered by the best companies including flexible schedules, remote work, physical accommodations, phased return-to-work and confidential HR channels for questions.

It also revealed several unique benefits being offered by some of the best companies such as coverage for clinical trials not covered by health insurance, hardship grants and training for managers supervising caregivers.

Other companies making the list include AbbVie, Best Buy, Blood Cancer United, Google, Haymarket Media Group, Lloyds Banking Group, Marriott International and Maven Partnership.

This is in addition to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Merck, Nestlé, Pfizer, Publicis Groupe, Renault Group, Sanofi and Stellantis.

“A cancer diagnosis is life-changing and no patient, caregiver or colleague should face that journey alone,” said Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer, in a statement. “We are honored to be recognized among organizations that turn compassion into action, and we remain committed to our workplace culture where people are supported with dignity, understanding and hope through their most difficult moments.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, 2 million new cancer cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S., while more than 72 percent of cancer diagnoses are made in adults 20-74, prime employment years.
