Lady Gaga has shown her love for Thom Solo and his sculptural Opera platform yet again, this time in the music video for her song “Runway” with Doechii, featured in the upcoming film “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
The “Runway” music video, which dropped Monday ahead of the film’s release on Friday, features a colorful mosaic of avant-garde outfits. Both Gaga and Doechii wear the Opera platform pump in the video, matching in a black pair as they walk side-by-side in a two-person double-breasted red blazer. And Lady Gaga, a devotee of the striking platform style, has another Opera moment in the video in a custom red croc version of the shoe; this one is showcased in cutaways as the musician poses with a giant red pump with a pitchfork heel, mimicking the posters for “The Devil Wears Prada” franchise.
The daring Thom Solo footwear style features dramatic lines, with a towering hourglass heel and hefty platform with a sharply pointed toe jutting beyond it. It matches the confident energy of the song, which proclaims “Monday through Sunday, I can turn the dance floor into a runway.” (“Runway,” of course, is also the name of the fictional fashion magazine in “The Devil Wears Prada” movies.)

In an interview with FN last year, Solo explained that while the Opera pump looks daunting, he spent six months perfecting the pitch to make it comfortable. He updated the popular style with embossed croc versions last year — and now Gaga has her custom red interpretation of the reptilian look.
Lady Gaga was wearing the Opera look for press engagements around her “Mayhem” album and accompanying tour. “It’s definitely become the brand’s go-to favorite. It’s kind of our leader in terms of everything,” Solo said of the shoe.
And when it comes to dressing Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, Solo shared, “I was raised by a single mom and a wonderful community of women and women in media. Women in music have built my DNA not only a queer person but also as an artist. Getting their seal of approval, I mean, there’s literally nothing better. It’s just dreams coming true.”
