Kenny Omega has made his return to AEW!

In a thrilling conclusion to the show, Kazuchika Okada triumphed over Will Ospreay in a brutal match, successfully defending his Continental Championship. After delivering the Rainmaker, Okada secured the three-count, emerging victorious in the Continental Classic tournament.

While presenting the championship, Christopher Daniels announced his departure as an EVP of the promotion and then revealed Kenny Omega’s comeback. The arena erupted as Omega’s music hit, and ‘The Cleaner’ made his entrance.

As introduced by Daniels, Omega is set to resume his EVP responsibilities. His dramatic return sent waves of excitement through the crowd as he presented Okada with the Continental Championship before making a strategic exit.

The former World Champion had been out of action since December 2023 due to diverticulitis and subsequent surgery. His last televised appearance was on the May 1st episode of Dynamite, where he was attacked by The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, and Jack Perry.

While a feud with Okada hasn’t kicked off yet, the two had an intense stare-down during the event.

Omega will soon head to Japan, where he is scheduled to compete against Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, 2025.

Long-Term Plans Following Kenny Omega’s Return

Discussing Omega’s highly anticipated match against Gabe Kidd in Japan, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter shared insights on the long-range plans for Kenny Omega.

Kenny Omega’s first match back in over a year will be on January 5 at the Tokyo Dome against Gabe Kidd. This matchup is particularly intriguing given Kidd’s physical style and the intense backstage altercation that led to it, which suggests a high-octane brawl is on the horizon.

Many have raised questions about Omega making his return in New Japan, but the January 5 show is a collaborative event with AEW, effectively serving as his AEW debut in Japan, where his return carries significant weight.

However, Omega must quickly establish his presence on U.S. television if he’s fit to return regularly. He intends to take a deliberate approach before committing to a full-time schedule, with hopes of transitioning smoothly back into a consistent role.
