The environmental impact of clothing goes beyond production, as garments shed small fiber pieces during washing and wear. These microfibers have a collective impact and can’t be ignored. Fashion for Good has partnered with The Microfibre Consortium to study “Behind the Break: Exploring Fibre Fragmentation” to reduce shedding and fragmentation. Major brands like Levi Strauss & Co. and Inditex have signed on to the project. The study aims to guide the industry in addressing this issue, as Carved in Blue’s series on SJ Denim from Lenzing explores the stories behind the mills and brands working to reduce denim’s environmental footprint.
