Christian Allaire, a journalist from the Nipissing First Nation reserve in Ontario, shares his journey as an Ojibwe journalist in his new memoir “From the Rez to the Runway Forging: My Path in Fashion”. Allaire, who was senior fashion and style writer at Vogue, has used his platform to showcase Indigenous fashion and creatives. In an interview, he discusses the challenges of blending his life in New York City with his roots on the reserve, where he prioritizes community and cultural heritage. He says finding fellow Native friends and a sense of community has helped him bridge the two worlds.
