Cascale, the global nonprofit alliance previously known as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, has announced its collaboration with FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE, an innovative initiative established by ABOUT YOU Group, YOOX NET-A-PORTER, and Zalando, in partnership with Quantis. This collaboration is focused on speeding up the implementation of science-based targets in the textile, apparel, and footwear sector, enabling Cascale to enhance its support for brand members on their sustainability and climate action pathways.

Climate Education for Industry Transformation

Established in 2022, FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE aims to strengthen the fashion industry’s response to the significant climate challenges it encounters. It assists fashion brands in learning how to quantify their carbon footprints and set targets aligned with climate science. Since its inception, more than 85 percent of participating brand partners have reported improved understanding of climate issues and science-based targets aimed at reducing Scope 3 emissions.

Cascale, which was formerly the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, collaborates with FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE to facilitate the adoption of science-based targets in fashion. The partnership provides an eight-week program that guides brands in measuring carbon footprints and establishing targets. This initiative aligns with Cascale’s ambition of achieving 80% target adoption among its members, fostering substantial climate action in the industry.

Understanding the essential role that fashion retailers play in driving industry changes, FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE’s founders have continuously aimed to empower brands, partners, and suppliers to enhance their climate efforts. Recently, ASOS, BOOZT, and Selfridges Group became new members of FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE, inviting hundreds of fashion brands within their combined portfolios to participate in the climate education program—highlighting its expanding influence.

Now, Cascale—representing over 300 organizations within the global consumer goods industry—has united with FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE to expedite the adoption of science-based targets and enrich its members’ educational journey. This collaboration introduces an immersive eight-week educational program, providing step-by-step assistance on measuring corporate carbon footprints and submitting science-based targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reflecting a unified commitment across the industry to meaningful climate action. A pilot program launched on October 28, 2024, initiated this enhanced educational support for Cascale members.

Colin Browne, chief executive officer at Cascale, remarked, “The climate crisis is urgent, and the fashion supply chain feels its impact daily. Time is critical. That’s why we are thrilled to partner with FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE to quicken the adoption of science-based targets throughout the industry. The imperative for clear, actionable climate steps has never been more pressing. By aiding our brand and retailer members in comprehending and committing to these targets, we can achieve meaningful progress and foster the real, lasting change that this moment necessitates.”

Cascale’s Decarbonization Program will gain significantly from the extensive educational resources supplied by FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE, further strengthening members’ abilities to decrease emissions. Since the integration of science-based targets into Cascale membership criteria in 2023, over 60 percent of corporate members have set or are actively pursuing science-based targets (SBTs) or science-aligned targets (SATs). Establishing these targets is crucial for formulating effective decarbonization strategies and reducing emissions. The collaboration between Cascale and FASHION LEAP FOR CLIMATE is a key initiative aimed at hastening progress toward Cascale’s objective of 80 percent SBT or SAT adoption across its corporate membership—including brands, retailers, holding companies, third-party sellers, and manufacturers—and emphasizes the organization’s dedication to combating climate change.
