Billie Eilish’s Roots Are Brighter Again, But Not Like You Might Expect—See Photos

Since the masses first met Billie Eilish via “Bad Guy,” the singer-songwriter has spent a good chunk of her seven years of celebrity wearing what has become something of a signature look: brightly colored roots contrasting with nearly black hair. We’ve been ready for her to bring it back in a new hue, and it seems like she’s done just that—just not the way we would’ve thought.

Eilish attended CinemaCon on Thursday, April 16, to promote her new film, co-directed by James Cameron, Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D). She appeared onstage in a Polo Ralph Lauren Big Pony Polo Shirt and baggy jeans, briefly sporting a pair of 3D glasses that could honestly pass as designer sunglasses. But upon closer inspection, she also introduced a subtle hair change.

It appears Eilish is growing out her darkly dyed hair, revealing several middle-parted inches of light brown hair—most likely her natural color. The line of demarcation isn’t harsh, suggesting a pro might have helped blend it, but even so, it’s truly not every day that we see a celebrity let their roots go this long, especially since lighter roots haven’t gained the kind of cool reputation that dark roots have over the years. (We welcome Eilish to usher in the era of this look being trendy!)

As you probably know, Eilish wore her roots neon-green for about two years—2019 to 2021—and after dabbling in blonde for a bit, she went back to brunette, eventually opting back into black hair and neon roots, that time in red.
