The Barry Art Museum at Old Dominion University has opened an exhibit called “Out of the Box: A Barbie Retrospective” that showcases the history and design of Barbie, the world’s most famous doll. The exhibit is divided into two parts: a history of fashion dolls and the history of Barbie. The exhibit features a re-creation of the 1979 Barbie dream house, Barbie dolls from the permanent collection, and interactive events and workshops. The curator hopes visitors will gain a sense of joy and a new appreciation for Barbie’s design and legacy. The exhibit runs through July 31.
