Threading Change, a Canadian non-profit organization run by young women, hosted a tote bag customization event at SXSW to promote self-expression and sustainability through fashion. The event, open to all, had around 60 attendees who personalized their bags with various materials. Participants found the event calming and inspiring, with many planning to start up-cycling their own clothing. The event aimed to spark a habit of modification and personalization, allowing individuals to showcase their unique style. Threading Change plans to host more events in North America, encouraging people to transform their clothing into self-expression and reduce fast fashion waste.
