Donatella Versace is stepping down as creative director of the luxury fashion brand Versace, ending the family’s control after nearly three decades. She will be succeeded by Dario Vitale, current design director of Miu Miu, which is owned by Prada. Some insiders see this as a precursor to an acquisition of Versace by Prada. Meanwhile, Demna, artistic director of Balenciaga, is leaving to lead Gucci, the parent company of both brands. Donatella praises Vitale, 41, as the “next generation of designers” and thanks him for his trust. This shift marks a new era for Versace, which was founded by Gianni Versace in 1978.
