He, in turn, took on the protector role after her 2023 breast cancer diagnosis.

“There’s no better person in the world to me than my husband,” Olivia stressed during a March 29 appearance on CBS News Sunday Morning. “He is—I mean, you’ve met him. He wanted to come to every single doctor’s appointment.” 

And, yes, he even managed to find the fun during a really dark time. 

Used to having a notebook on-hand to capture any jokes that spring to mind, he began jotting down his thoughts about the whole process. “You know, having the humor to go through it and having someone who is so funny,” Olivia shared, “it really—it just lightens everything.”

And, of course, the 45-year-old emerged with an enhanced gratitude for their life together, telling CBS News, “It’s a true privilege to just be alive in the world.”

Not that she needs to tell that to her husband. 

One month after John checked into rehab in September 2020, he relapsed, leading Seth Meyers, Nick Kroll, Fred Armisen, Natasha Lyonne and other friends to stage an intervention that December.
