Kristen Wiig’s Oscars Makeup Was a Whole “Monochromatic Chocolate Tonal Mood”

Though Kristen Wiig has had—and continues to have!—plenty of opportunities to dress up in her career (the costume and makeup department on Palm Royale must have so much fun), there’s nothing like award show glam. Academy Awards show glam, especially.

For Hollywood’s biggest night on Sunday, March 15, Wiig and her fellow Bridesmaids stars showed up for both a mini onstage reunion and some showing off on the red carpet. For the evening, Wiig wore a cocoa-brown beaded Elie Saab gown with a scoop necked top, full skirt, and chocolate-y makeup to match.

Instead of going Old Hollywood, Wiig went with a modern California cool girl makeup look. Her pretty freckles shone through her tanned complexion, which was brushed with bronzy blush. The sun-touched setup continued with her shimmery bronze eyeshadow, which complemented her heavily top and bottom black mascara’d blue eyes. At last, her lips were received a touch of cool-toned lip gloss—the perfect finishing touch.

“Kristen’s Oscars makeup was inspired by the Elie Saab cocoa tone gown. I wanted to create a soft monochromatic chocolate tonal mood,” explained her go-to makeup artist, Jo Baker. “With the focus on skin being radiant, fresh and healthy with complimentary warmth, golden sun-kissed and bronzy brown hues for a flattering soft feel.”

It’s worth noting that the pair’s last collaboration included a similarly sun-kissed look inspired “by hot roasted honey glazed chicken.” The glam obviously went over well, because the energy was similar this time around… even if the mood board was much different.

The Skin Prep

Before makeup time, Baker prepped Wiig’s skin with lymphatic drainage courtesy of ORA Method’s LED Gua Sha. The fancy tool combines traditional gua sha massage with LED light therapy to support firm and bright-looking skin. Another skincare tool was G.M. Collin’s coconut water-based Biocellulose Mask to “rejuvenate and nourish” without any drip or slime—”just the perfect dose to hydrate to soothe and cool the skins surface.”

Then came a skincare lineup of G.M. Collin Bota-Peptide Eye Contour,  G.M. Collin Ceramide Comfort Serum, G.M. Collin Glow Mask, and G.M. Collin Sensiderm Soothing Mist. Glowy.

And then?! All that great chocolate-y color.

How to Get the Look

To keep Wiig’s skin fresh-faced and dewy, Baker used the newly launched Well People Skinforia Serum Foundation in shade 28 medium neutral to “brighten, hydrate, and smooth any crepey areas that need an extra juicy boost.”

“For eyes to feel rich, warm, and sultry, I blended two metallic golden shades from the Power Palette Eyeshadow in Sepia to give off a soft glamorous satin sheen across the lid that compliments the dress tones perfectly,” explained the artist. Then came a few coats of Expressionist Curling Mascara to make those eyes really pop.

For Wiig’s brows, Baker used a few strokes of Expressionist Brow Pencil “to sketch in fullness” and a sweep of Expressionist Brow Gel to keep them in place. Her sun-kissed cheeks received a little extra flush thanks to the Supernatural Stick Bronzer in Golden Bronze and Supernatural Stick Multi-Use Blush in Rose.

“In keeping with the monochromatic mood, lips were drenched in the hyper sheer, juicy Poutlove Peptide Balm in Honey Plum to give comfort, high glamour and the most flattering sheer plum chocolate tone that brings this whole look together!” added Baker. “Finally, a buff of Bio Bronzing Priming Serum was slathered all over her arms and decollate to keep skin looking and feeling juicy.”

So juicy. Like a honey glazed chicken—or simply a star.
